The real name for a stick insect is a ‘phasmatodea’, which is hard enough to spell, let alone say. That’s why here at Smithills Open Farm we just call ‘em stick insects; they don’t seem to mind. There are over 3000 described species of stick insect, and most of them can be found in the tropics. The tropics are quite a way from Bolton. Stick insects are really well camouflaged, which makes them very tricky to spot. See how many you can find when you come to visit us. Count them and let a member of staff at the farm know.
